Details of Ghazals Pgrogram and AGM on 12th May 2005

GHAZALS by Sri.Ghazal Srinivas

The program was inaugurated by Mrs.Malleswari Veeranna by lighting the lamp. President Dr.D.Veeranna in his welcome address thanked the invited dignitaries and sponsors for gracing the occasion to felicitate the great Ghazal singer Sri Srinivas for his contribution to spread the message of human values, essence of life and peace. His recent peace march on foot to Wagha signifies his efforts to bring together  people of the two nations of the Sub-continent India and Pakistan.  An album ‘Shanti Yatra’ was released on this occasion by President Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. The program was anchored by Gen.Sec.K.Suresh.

The stage was left to Sri Ghazal Srinivas. He enthralled the audience with his Hindi and Telugu Ghazals. At the end of the program, President Dr.D.Veeranna felicitated Sri Srinivas by presenting “ Antarjathiya Sathbhavana Puraskaram” in recognition of his contribution to peace and understanding. An album on “Lord Venkateswara”, composed by Sri Ghazal Srinivas was released by the TKS President.

Sri Srinivas presented mementos, on behalf of executive committee of TKS, to some of the members for their significant contribution in organizing the programs during the year. With this program, the literary and cultural programs for the year came to an end. This was followed by  AGM.

Annual General Body Meeting

President Dr.Veeranna thanked the members for their cooperation in conducting the program in an orderly manner as per  announced time schedules throughout the year. He emphasized that this was possible only with the full cooperation of the members. He thanked the all the executive committee members for their relentless efforts in organizing the programs. Some of the members might have not spared any time for their families in their commitment to TKS. Families bore the brunt of it. But for the cooperation of the families of the EC members, it would not have been possible to organize the programs in this way. Finally he thanked all the sponsors and well wishers but for whose support, it would not have been possible to organize the programs on this scale.

Gen. Secretary, Mr.K.Suresh gave a power point presentation of the activities conducted during the year. Treasurer Mr.U.G.Saibaba presented the audited financial statement for the year. Then the forum was open for discussion.

 Expenditure on programs

One of the members raised the issue of difference in estimated budget and actual expenditure for some of the programs as highlighted by the audited committee. President explained that in spite of the best efforts by the committee to keep  expenditure within the estimated budget, some last minute problems resulted in increase in expenditure in some cases.

 Membership

One of the members expressed that even though the overall income for the year was more than last year, the membership subscription was less indicating reduction in membership. It was informed that in spite of the best efforts by the committee members some of the old members did not renew their membership. There was a large addition of new members. Thus it is a dynamic process. Old members are requested to introduce any new members wishing to join TKS.

Additional Jt.Secretary

Some members asked about the position of additional Jt.Secretary that was displayed on website for some time and deleted later on. President informed that additional Jt. Secretary was in fact displayed on the website for some time and deleted later following his resignation He further informed that it was not provided in the byelaw. It was a deviation from byelaw. Soon after the election of the committee in June 2004, the committee in its wisdom unanimously decided to have a position of additional Jt. Secretary with full concurrence of the Jt.Secretary Mr.M.Suresh Babu Naidu. Since it was deviation from byelaw, it was put to the GB on 17th June 2004. It had the approval of the GB and hence it was not violation of byelaw.

The member asked if the same person could be appointed on the Advisory Committee. The President informed that it is absolute prerogative the Executive Committee to select advisory committee from TKS members. The committee needed his services and hence requested him to serve on the Advisory Committee.

 Election of Executive Positions

One of the members suggested that people contesting for the Executive Positions (President, V.President, Gen.Secretary, Jt.Secretary and Treasures) should work as Executive Committee members for a year. This will encourage people to work as EC members. Another member suggested that this resolution should be put voting. Other members said that these are responsible positions and only capable people will take up these positions. It is not advisable to ask these people to work as EC members. This will only deprive TKS of members capable of providing strong leadership. Many other members supported this line of argument. Hence the proposal was dropped.

Association of Past Executive Committee members in Executive Committee of other Associations

Some members raised concern about some of the immediate past executive members running parallel organization and its adverse effects on TKS. Members questioned EC for not taking any action on such members. Vice President Mr.B.Srinivas and Gen.Secretary Mr.K.Suresh informed the members that such organizations did create problems and bad name for the entire community. However, there is no provision in the byelaw. It talks about immediately preceding two years and not the following years. Members expressed that the condition should be applicable for following two years also. It should be included in the undertaking given in the election nomination papers. For any violation Executive Committee is empowered to take action as per item byelaw.

 Vote of thanks

Jt.Secretary, Mr.M.Suresh Babu Naidu thanked all the members, sponsors, artists and well wishers for their cooperation and support during the year but for which it would not have been possible to organize the programs on this scale.
