DETAILS OF INAUGURAL PROGRAM ON 16th SEPTEMBER 2004
Telugu Kala Samiti (TKS) has conducted its inaugural program for the year 2004-2005 at Shaab Leisure Park indoor auditorium, Mydan Hawalli, on 16th September 2004. The program was inauguareted by lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Mr.Thomas, First Secretary-Cultural Affairs, Indian Embassy, Kuwait. This was followed by prayer and welcome songs by M/s K.V. Annapurna, B. Lalitamba, M. Padmaja, V. Swarnalatha, S. Jyoti, G. Poornakala, N. Suneetha, V. Sindhu and J Annapurna.
The President of TKS, Dr.D.Veeranna, in his inaugural address declared this event as a welcome function for Mr.Thomas as this happened to be his first function in Kuwait after he took charge. He stressed the importance of active participation of all the members in the activities of the democratic organizations like TKS and requested the members to keep the interest of TKS above personal interests and work for strengthening TKS. He sought the help of embassy in arranging visas for the visiting artists for which Mr.Thomas responded favourably.
Mr.Thomas in his address stressed the importance of cultural functions and expressed happiness at the activities of TKS. General Secretary Mr.K.Suresh spoke about the challenges faced by the committee, particularly the financial resources, and outlined the ways and means proposed to be adapted by the committee. He requested the members to visit the website (www.tks-kuwait.com) regularly for all program updates and information.
Cultural program started with the dance on the song “Gajavadana Beduve” by Mrs.Suneetha, Kuchipudi (a dance form of Andhra Pradesh) exponent and a follower of Father of Kuchipudi, Padmsri Dr Vempati China Sathyam. This item set the tone for the program of the evening. Followed by the event was a mimicry show by Mr.Siva Reddy, Bharatamuni and Relangi award winner, actor, singer and dancer, who has 1800 performances in India and abroad to his credit. He enthralled the audience with his parodies on children, teenagers and newly married couples. Mr.Siva Reddy acted in more than 40 movies and also acting as a hero in forthcoming movie “Rambha Naaku and Vurvasi Neeku”.
Next item of the evening was “Muddugaare Yasoda”, a song written by Tallapaka Annamayya, to which Mrs.Suneetha did her Kuchipudi performance with excellent facial expressions, which kept the audience spell bound. Immediately after that was “Siva Stuti”, a praise of Lord Siva, again a dance item by Mrs.Suneeta, which was received by the audience with enthusiasm and interest in Kuchipudi dance.
Next item was again by Mr.Siva Reddy, this time mimicking popular politicians like late Sri NT Rama Rao, Sri Chandra Babu Naiudu and Dr.Rajasekhara Reddy & popular cine artists like NTR, ANR, Nagarjuna, Mohan Babu and many others. Later, Mrs.Lalitamba, a guest from India, presented Karnatic songs and taken the audience to entirely a different mind set.
Last item was again by Mr. Siva Reddy, who entertained the audience with his dance performances. He imitated the dances of famous cine stars of tollywood. Among those he imitated were the late NTR, ANR, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Narayanamurthy etc. This item was the highlight of the evening.
Mr.Thomas, on behalf of TKS, felicitated the artists Mr.Siva Reddy and the Kuchipudi dancer Mrs.Suneeta.
Mr.Siva Reddy presented the prizes to early arrival prize winners Mrs. Prasanthi and Mr.P.Venkateswara Rao.
Jt. Secretary Suresh Babu thanked the Chief Guest, Artists Mr.Siva Reddy & Mrs.Suneetha. He thanked the sponsors UAE Exchange, Al Mulla International Exchange, ISCO, Al Mktab Travels, Royal Jewelers and others for the financial support and Auditorium management and staff for the excellent facilities & co-operation. Special thanks are due to all the well wishers, volunteers and all others who directly or indirectly contributed to the success of this function. Very special thanks to Mr. Anand Kumar for conducting the whole proceedings. At the end, a delicious dinner was served to all the audience.
